The Hanna Sisters are an Irish band of three sisters from the North of Ireland. The trio are rooted in a musical family and are known for blending traditional Irish influences with classical and contemporary arrangements. The core line-up consists of Mary (piano, lead vocals), Nuala (vocals, violin, guitar & bodhran) and Breige (vocals, violin, tin whistles).

Their music emphasizes tight vocal harmonies, a folk sensibility, and arrangements built around piano, strings, and traditional instrumentation.

Mary

Piano, Vocals
From an early age, Mary showed a natural passion for music. She learned piano and guitar as a child and quickly became devoted to all things musical. On the Hanna Sisters’ albums, Mary plays piano and keyboards and takes the lead on vocals. Her voice is powerful and instantly recognizable, carrying both emotion and energy. Whenever she performs, her deep love of music shines through, captivating audiences and defining much of the group’s signature sound and style.

Nuala

Violin, Guitar, Vocals
Like her sisters, she is a talented musician skilled in piano and tin whistle, but it was the violin that truly captured her heart and talent. During her teenage years, joined choirs and performed with school and regional orchestras before moving on to Celtic rock bands. Her unique fiddle sound, paired with Breige’s tin whistles, gives the Hanna Sisters’ music its distinctive Celtic flair. She also adds rhythm with the bodhrán and bongos during live shows.

Breige

Tin whistle, Violin, Vocals
An extraordinarily gifted whistle player, Breige is known for her haunting tone and distinctive ornamentation that set the band apart. Widely regarded as one of the finest musicians of her generation, she brings depth and texture to the group’s sound through her mastery of the whistles, violin, and banjo, as well as her rich backing vocals. In live performances, Breige often amazes audiences by effortlessly switching between instruments, showcasing her remarkable versatility.
